1) Energy & Buildings

What is it? Power you used in a year. Where to find it? Your electricity bill (look for “kWh”). If you don’t know, put your best guess. If you don’t pay electricity, put 0.
Working from home? Use your home electricity bill, but count only the part for your business time. Example: if your home uses 4,000 kWh in a year and you work ~35% of your waking time on the business, count 4,000 × 0.35 = 1,400 kWh.
“Building heating” means heat bought from your landlord, building, or a district heating network. Look for kWh or MWh on a heating bill, service charge statement, or landlord invoice. If you use your own gas or heating oil, enter it under gas or heating oil instead. If you cannot find this number, put 0 or ask your landlord/building manager.
Natural gas used (kWh). If none, 0.
Heating oil or kerosene delivered for a boiler (litres). If never, 0.

2) Transport & Travel

Fuel you bought for work vans or cars. If none, 0.
Diesel fuel for work vehicles. If none, 0.
Personal cars used for work trips, such as visiting clients, suppliers, events, or meetings. Add the total kilometres for everyone in the business. Do not include normal commuting to work.
Total train distance for work trips for the year.
Total bus or coach distance for work trips.
Uber or taxi distance for work trips.
Flights under ~3 hours (one way). Count people × trips.
Flights over ~3 hours (one way). Count people × trips. This is a simplified conservative estimate that includes an allowance for aviation’s wider climate impact.

3) Employee Commuting

Regular travel from home to work and back by car. Average daily km × days worked × people. If unsure, estimate.
Train, metro, or bus to and from work for all staff (km in one year).
Bike or walking to and from work (km). This is low/zero emissions.

4) Purchased Goods & Services

One pack of A4 paper ≈ 2.5 kg.
Boxes, mailers, bubble wrap, etc.
How many laptops you bought this year.
How many phones you bought this year.
Physical servers or big IT hardware.
Furniture, cleaning products, uniforms, printing, etc.

5) Waste, Water, Deliveries

Enter kilograms (from contractor or weight tickets).
Enter kilograms recycled.
From your water bill (m³). Estimate if needed.
Total kilograms of parcels you shipped this year.
Pick one reasonable average, e.g. 50 km.

    This calculator gives small businesses a structured first estimate of their carbon footprint. It can be used to start recording emissions, identify the largest emission sources, and create a simple climate KPI to follow over time. Electricity factors vary by selected region. Other factors use widely recognised public emissions datasets. The downloadable PDF report can be saved as internal documentation, used for year-to-year comparison, and shared as a starting point for sustainability discussions.
